Specialty Travel Resources Traveling to unique destinations such as national parks or for specific activities such as hiking and skiing is frequently possible without a car. Public Transportation is available to and locally within many national parks and many other unique destinations or travel activities can also be accessed without driving. When public transportation doesn't serve your destination directly, but is available nearby, walking, biking, taxis and car-sharing offer convenient options for the first or last few miles. This page outlines just a few of the many unique destinations and activities that can be easily visited without a car. Additional listings will be added as they are discovered and new services introduced. To address problems created by the ever growing popularity of our national parks, several parks have initiated shuttle services to help visitors enjoy everything the parks have to offer without the impact inherent with driving. With the remarkable success of these shuttles, many other parks are planning similar services. Many ski areas provide shuttles between nearby resorts and the slopes, sometimes as part of packages that include lift tickets and other amenities. Getting to and from the resort is also possible in many instances via scheduled public transportation services or by special services operated by sports companies, resorts or the ski area itself. I have been unable to find a comprehensive nationwide list of ski areas and resorts that can be easily visited without a car and plan to create such a list.
